We need to develop a culture where identifying problems BEFORE they get to the customer is valued. Too much emphasis is put on "not making the factories look bad" - because upper management want to help each other protect their jobs. Many Korean managers in the US do not hold the factories to quality standards because of misplaced loyalty. Loyalty should be to LG as a whole and not to just one factory or group of factories. It won't matter much if our reports show the factories are doing a good job and the customers don't want to buy LG products!!

In order to be Consumer and Marketing oriented, we must also be Manufacturing and Quality oriented. We cannot satisfy the consumer or capture market share if we do not focus on quality problems in Manufacturing and the field, and correct them.

In the past, Goldstar products failed in the US because of poor quality. Now some US customers are unhappy with LG products because of poor quality.

So becoming Consumer and Marketing oriented requires more than innovation and being the first to deliver features that the customer wants. It also requires excellent quality due to excellent manufacturing.
