‘No complacency’ Spirit

Holding an LG Innovation Contest is a good concept to help us be "truly best in the world". But this contest is very complicated, very time consuming, and very limiting.

1. Many great innovative ideas come from individuals. But this contest only allows teams to enter. So we are not allowed to submit our individual ideas. Many ideas will be missed.

2. Many employees have more than one innovative idea. Some individual employees have many ideas. But we are only allowed to submit one innovative idea per team. This is less than one idea per employee. Many ideas will be missed.

3. Some of the best innovative ideas are very simple and can be explained briefly. But this contest is only looking for elaborate ideas with many hours of team development outside of company time. This is to be followed by elaborate Powerpoint presentations to management. We don't all have the time outside of work to do all of this. Many of us don't know how to use Powerpoint. Many of us don't know how to make fancy Powerpoints for management. So a lot of us won't enter the contest. Many ideas will be missed.

4. Many employees have innovative ideas, but if we win the contest, we don't have the time to join a new team to continue developing our ideas over the next year. So a lot of us won't enter the contest. Many ideas will be missed.

After this innovation contest is over, please consider holding a second innovation contest. For the second contest, please encourage simple ideas with simple explanations. Please allow individuals to enter. Please allow more than one innovative idea per employee. (Some individual employees may submit 5 or 10 ideas.) Please allow employees to write up their simple ideas during company time. And please don't announce that the employees who submit the ideas will be asked to join a team to develop their ideas later.

All of us would like to make a major contribution to LG, and many of us have great ideas to help the company become number one in the world. A second innovation contest that is simpler would help us to share those ideas with management.
