Four Criteria for Evaluating Leadership

Sometimes I wish I worked in the same company as the CEO's. Because in the LG I work for:

* Employess don't get enough "empowerment" to perform their basic duties;

* "Motivation" is constantly destroyed by arbitrary, autocratic, "down your throat" mismanagement actions;

* We are often denied any kind of "cooperation" from other company departments;

* Managers have no "ambition" to address these and other serious issues, prefering instead to shift the blame to their subordinates.

To be fair, none of this is the fault of any one particular person; these issues are all deeply entrenched in the company's culture. But it makes all the more surreal to read the CEO talk of LG as it were some Eden of corporate righteousness, when in fact the reality is harshly different.

The LG I work for:

*Local managers get basic empowerment. In my department employees get empowerment from local manager;

*Motivation comes from local managers;

*Cooperation between local managers is excellent;

*Local managers have ambition but don't have the power to address serious issues.

The CEO's message is of hope and gives us the direction he wants us to take.
With out this we (locals) would be lost because information would otherwise never gets to us.

I would hope one day to have a better channel of communication with Top in Korea!

Unfortunately here in Brazil our FSE has prohibited the Group Leaders to provide feedback to their members.

Oh, local managers are fine; but then again, they're in the same boat as us. It's the middle-to-high-level management that seems to think of us as their own private ant farm, theirs to toy with as they pleasure.

I'm sorry, but nice words detached from any concrete actions whatsoever are not enough to give me hope. It's just the same as nothing, going on about "empowerment", "one team play", "innovation" etc, while we can't get even the most basic requests through.

Chinese translation seems not fully matched with English meaning. e.g.
1. Ambition should be "抱負, 野心" instead of "眼界".
2. Team Player should be "团員" instead of "团队的領导"
