The worst thing to do as a leader

This is perfect said by Honourable CEO, but unfortunately most of our leaders lack this ability. I think a big boost is required from upper lobby to initiate this action plan to recongnise the ability of juniors and shape that into profitable growth.

Let me get this straight... What is the one thing a leader should never do? Is it underestimate the potential of members and not challenge them to go beyond the set goal?

Or is it the WORST thing they can do - steal the growth opportunity of members?...

If these two concepts (underestimation and theft) are supposed to be the same thing, why not just say, "By underestimating the potential of members and not challenging them to go beyond set goals, leaders steal their growth opportunity. That is the worst thing leaders can do"?

I think it is up to the member to continue stretching the goal and to seek the challenge out, whether the leader is willing to raise the goal or not, because, as the previous commentator said, leaders sometimes lack the ability to effectively challenge members. Now, when leaders are engaged in outright theft of members' growth opportunity, by willfully denying them challenging work, regardless of potential, that is a big problem and should be addressed at once. Everyone must be challenged regardless of potential. It is the challenge that creates potential. The way a leader can underestimate members is by not challenging him/herself. Encouraging words if I understood correctly.

I can think of many worse things, for example not doing your job with integrity. We need to teach leadership, not managing. We must always challenge eachother which helps us improve ourselves. But challenging to challenge, or challenging on the wrong things, can demoralize and also be bad.
