Excessively Decorated Report

I have totally agreed with CEO's thought. However, still at work, decorating presentation is forced and sometimes, too much of decoration detail is required. Person who is just decorating presentation measured as highly important person. That is ridiculous. I am not an art major. These kinds of work should be done by administrative personnel or in entry level personnel. To change this, when you do presentation, communicate in both verbally and written. Well, I think we can spend & utilize our time at work better when we eliminate these unnecessary decoration efforts.

I also agree with the issue as the top says. The report is very important whenever you work.At the same time ,doing reports also call for a lot of time that many people ofen are disturbed especially when you are occupied in work.

In appreciation this message is about decorative presentations, there is such a fine line between decorative and effective, two words so far apart yet commonly misunderstood. Decorative type presentations are burdensome and lose the interest of the audience quickly, whereas effective presentations are marked with high quality visuals and require smooth, practiced delivery. Of course, effective communication through presentation does take time and effort; I presume it’s all based on where your focus is. The content of the presentation and any supporting handouts should be relevant to the audience members as useful information, not simply good data. Rather than presenting simple data, paste animated visuals and simply fill the slide, build a compelling message creating meaningful data and work on your delivery.

I am an administrator and involved in preparing reports. I applaud our CEO's thought on this. Too often the business part of the report is lost in too many "bells and whistles". Reports should be clear, concise, and complete. If reports are too full of extra, unnecessary information, the true facts are lost - or the reports are not looked at - in either case the purpose of the report is lost.

We can only do so much... but if our direct superiors are still advocating the use of fancy powerpoints then I do not see the need of all this talk.

To start with, abolish the use of Powerpoint in the first place. Reports should be done on Words int he first place.

I too agree with our CEO on this point. However, I am also concerned at this point in time. Our CEO comes out with so many brilliant ideas to improve our company. Most of these ideas do not get implemented on a day-to-day work life. Let's take the example of communicating in English. It is a welcome relief when this was communicated by our CEO. However, its been a while since we saw that communication was passed on but nothing really changed much at a grass-root level. When we have a non-Korean around, we should speak in a language that everyone understands at the same time. This will improve trust and confidence within the team. Imagine if you were suddenly shifted in an Arabic company and everyone spoke / wrote in Arabic. How would you feel about it? Let's all work together to make LG a truely global company and an employer of choice.

I agree with the CEO, but it seems like he does not yet have the power to make things like this actually happen at the lower levels. He has replaced several top management people with non-Koreans, and this is a good start. Now he needs to begin replacing the management at the lower levels if they do not follow his instructions. Managers who do not follow the CEO's instructions and change their ways, must be removed from the company.

Because of the major changes at the top levels, I am optimistic that things like English usage and reduction of useless reports and useless meetings will improve long term. But right now the changes that are happening at the top levels have not yet filtered down to the lower levels, and it seems to most of us like the CEO is powerless. He will not have the power he needs until he begins to remove lower level managers who do not follow his instructions. Then other managers will see what is happening and many of them will begin to change, or else they will also be removed.

For LGELV President Geu Sung Lee this is a common thing. Your data could be 100% correct , but report will be returned to you from 3 to 6 times with the reason, that it doesn't have "business style" in decoration.

I really agree with that. Just step out of university,I'm a fresh for LGEHZ. During the training time,I noted that there're massive report which no doubt had cost much time and energy. we are urgent to promote waste-cut-down.Excessively decorated report is really a waste. Eradicating excessively decorated report is really the right thing to do. Support with my act!

I totally agree: I am not a "painter" and should have to spend hours after hours fixing line alignment of the report.. the content is there and that's what matters... can you tell this to my director somehow?
