This is a very good first step. Management training is very badly needed in all areas, including coaching skills, communication, efficiency, cross-cultural understanding, conducting meetings, English usage, stress reduction, budgeting, and wise use of resources.
Managers must learn how to save money in some areas but spend money where it is an investment that will actually save the company more money. Right now they just try to save money on everything and won't spend to invest in things that would save more money. They don't understand the difference between true waste elimination and investment.
For example, refusing to spend small amounts of money on supplies or equipment that are badly needed, reduces efficiency and creates waste. It is not waste elimination, it is waste creation. They think they are saving money for their own budget, but they are wasting money for the company.
The CEO understands this concept at the top and he is investing heavily in things like R&D for the future of the company. But lower level managers are refusing to spend money on anything.
This also destroys the morale of the employees, because they can't get the resources they need to do their jobs properly. They are told to work smarter and double or triple their efficiency, but they can't get the resources they need to accomplish it.
This program sounds really great! It should be rolled out to all areas and subsidiaries of the company. Many managers have no "booster" skills. This could be very valuable not only in helping employees suceed but also in identifying managers that need much more training or need to be moved to another task.
Boy do our LG managers ever need good leadership training! All day, every day at LG it is just "I am God! Do what I say! Your opinion is like dog poop to me! Bow down and worship me! You are not worth the air you breath!" That's all i hear from my boss. I wish the culture in LG was more open to ideas and innovation, but all day long it is just top to bottom only.
